The Sedona Verde Valley region is located between 3,160 ft (963m) and 5,435 ft (1,656m). Roads leading from Phoenix and Prescott, or up and down through Oak Creek Canyon, are an exciting serpentine run with may stunning vistas and scenic sensations on the way. From Phoenix take I-17 north.
Climate Summer: 85 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit (27 to 35 degrees Celsius) during the day but the breeze of the Mingus Mountain range and the shadows of the Red Rocks in Sedona ease the heat; Winter: mild with 55 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit (12 to 18 degrees Celsius) with occoasional days below freezing. There is rarely any snow.
History and Population The communities forming the Sedona Verde Valley region were founded between 1865aned 1914 accommodating the needs of mining and military encampments in the area.
Today, Sedona, Cottonwood and Camp Verde all have populations of approximately 11,000. Clarkdale is much smaller with about 3,715. The 330 souls in Jerome qualify its reputation as the "Largest Ghost Town in America".
The Sedona Verde Valley region celebrates "small town USA" and is home to the communities of Camp Verde, Clarkdale, Cornville, Cottonwood, Jerome, Page Springs, Sedona and the Yavapai-Apache Nation.
