Celebrate the Festival of Science with fall color in the gardens
FLAGSTAFF, Friday, September 16, 2011. The Arboretum at Flagstaff’s annual Fall Open House is
Saturday, October 1, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Celebrate the Flagstaff Festival of
Science with this free event that focuses on research at The Arboretum. Join
Dr. Kristin Haskins in her demonstration about how different wavelengths of
light affect plants and how they grow. Visitors of all ages can learn about the
importance of sunlight. Families can participate in a scavenger hunt and craft
activities. Catch special “Fall Color” garden tours at 1:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. with
Executive Director, Steve Yoder. The wildlife program features a presentation
on the Science of Flight at 2:00 p.m. This event is free to all. For more

The Arboretum is a botanical garden, research center, and nature preserve
dedicated to educating the public about the plants and plant communities of the
Colorado Plateau. It is located four
miles south of Route 66 on scenic Woody Mountain Road in West Flagstaff.
