Verde Canyon Railroad Holds Magic for All Ages

Clarkdale, AZ -
Trains are more than just transportation. Trains are a language, a legend, an idea that crosses generations. Never is that more obvious at Verde Canyon Railroad than on Grandparent’s Day.
It’s no surprise that folks who rode trains in their youth feel an affinity for them, but that doesn’t explain the wide-eyed wonder, the giggly excitement of youngsters who have never before heard the conductor’s call of “All aboard!” On Sunday, September 11, Verde Canyon Railroad brings the whole family together for a special adventure. Grandma and Grandpa, Mom and Dad and all the kids get a chance to spend time with each other immersed in a rare rail adventure.

A multi-generational outing is just like a railroad: not just a line of track linking one place to another; it is a connection of the past to the present, just like a family. Verde Canyon offers the kind of comfort and service that will make everyone in the family happy. First-class accommodations offer spacious living room-style seating, plush love seats and panoramic windows. There’s Champagne upon boarding (cider for the little ones), complementary appetizers and service at your seat. All cars have access to open-air viewing cars offering 360-degree views and photo opportunities to capture the rare time families have spending time together doing something really fun for all ages.

The monsoon rains of summer reinvigorate the Canyon. Fresh greenery accents the red sandstone walls, bouquets of wildflowers add touches of drama and wildlife responds to cooler temperatures as they actively prowl their domain.

Of course Verde Canyon Railroad’s Fall Colors Tour
should be on everyone’s must-do list.  Autumn is a low-key season for much of Arizona, barely registering in the low deserts and among the dense pine forests of the mountains. It’s as if the season saves all its energy for isolated riparian pockets where it explodes in a colorful fury. In Verde Canyon autumn bursts on the scene with a rowdy, gaudy, eye-popping flourish. As the train rolls through the vibrant corridor at a leisurely pace, passengers are treated to the best show of autumn in Arizona.

Verde Canyon Railroad runs every day except Tuesdays. The depot is located in Clarkdale, 25 minutes from Sedona and two hours north of Phoenix, making Verde Canyon Railroad the perfect Arizona day trip.
